About Strengths Compass Pro

What it is, how it works, and who it’s for

About the Assessment

What is Strengths Compass Pro?

Strengths Compass Pro is a validated strengths assessment that maps your profile across 18 strengths in six clusters. It shows where your natural strengths lie, where they pull against each other, and how to develop them. It comes in four age versions: 13–17, 18–25, 26–40 and 40+.

The 18 strengths fall into six clusters:

  • Caring & Self-Understanding: Altruism, Empathy, Self-Awareness
  • Character & Moral Foundation: Honesty-Humility, Reliability, Cooperation
  • Drive & Achievement: Perseverance, Self-Discipline, Initiative
  • Emotional Strength: Resilience, Emotional Regulation, Flexibility
  • Personal Agency & Growth: Growth Mindset, Self-Efficacy, Leadership
  • Openness & Future Orientation: Optimism, Grit, Creativity-Curiosity

Each is measured at three levels: cluster, strength and everyday behaviour.

Personality tests such as MBTI describe what type you are. Strengths Compass Pro is built for development: every strength links to specific behaviours you can practise at school or work, so it shows where your natural advantages lie and how to use or develop them.

Strength tensions occur when two strengths pull against each other. For example, high initiative with low self-discipline can mean many projects started but fewer finished. Knowing your tensions explains why some situations feel harder than they should, and gives you strategies to manage them.

Strength synergies are combinations where two or more of your strengths work together to create a distinct capability. Examples include:

  • High Empathy + High Leadership → natural mentoring and team-building ability
  • High Creativity + High Perseverance → innovation execution strength
  • High Self-Awareness + High Flexibility → rapid learning and adaptation
  • High Grit + High Altruism → institution-building and legacy development

Synergies show you where you create disproportionate value and should inform your career positioning.

Choose based on your age and life stage:

  • Ages 13–17: Adolescents — 90 questions, written at Class 8–10 reading level, focused on academics, extracurriculars, and self-understanding
  • Ages 18–25: Young Adults — 126 questions, focused on college majors, first jobs, and early career direction
  • Ages 26–40: Career Builders — 126 questions, focused on mid-career positioning, promotions, leadership, and pivots
  • Ages 40+: Experienced Professionals — 126 questions, focused on senior leadership, legacy, board readiness, and encore careers

No. There are no good or bad scores — only your authentic profile. The assessment is designed to reveal your natural pattern of strengths, not rank you against an ideal. Every profile, including its tensions, is useful information. The goal is self-understanding that drives targeted development, not a score to be optimised.

Science & Validation

Methodology, accuracy, and research foundations

Validation
Is the assessment scientifically validated?

Yes. Strengths Compass Pro is validated in India for students and adults. Its strengths draw on research in positive psychology, personality science and organisational behaviour, and it includes reverse-scored items and checks that flag over-stated answers, so your profile reflects you.

Accuracy depends primarily on the honesty of your responses. The assessment is built with built-in consistency checks that detect if responses are inconsistent or overly skewed. There are no “right” or “wrong” answers — answer based on how you actually are, not how you wish to be. The most useful results come from honest, reflective responses.

Yes. The assessment is specifically designed and adapted for Indian and emerging-market contexts. Questions use culturally relevant examples, and the language is adapted to be natural and relatable for students and professionals across India. For the adolescent version, the reading level is calibrated to Class 8–10 Indian English standards.

You answer each statement on a 1–5 scale. Scores are worked out at three levels (cluster, strength and behaviour), and each comes with a plain explanation of what it means in your own life context.

Adolescents Ages 13–17

Strengths Compass Pro for Adolescents — for parents and schools

About the Assessment
How long does the adolescent assessment take?

Most students finish in 20–25 minutes. There is no time limit, and the adolescent version has 90 straightforward questions.

This version is designed specifically for students aged 13 to 17 years (Classes 8–12). It uses simple Indian English at a Class 8–10 reading level so questions are clear and relatable. It is built for students across India and other emerging markets with culturally relevant contexts.

Yes. It works in any browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with no app to download, and it is easy to use on a small screen.

The questions use simple, everyday language and there are no trick questions. If your child is unsure about one, their first instinct is usually the most accurate answer.

Not exactly. It measures your child’s core strengths, which inform career choices but also apply to studies, relationships and activities. Think of it as a strengths map, not a career matcher. For career interests, the Career Interest Explorer adds that view.

RESULTS & NEXT STEPS
What does the adolescent report include?

The report goes to you and your child. It includes easy-to-read graphs of the full strength profile, the top 5 signature strengths, synergies and tensions, an explanation of each strength, subject and activity guidance, and a development roadmap with daily habits to practise.

Yes, after at least six months. That gives time to work on development areas, so a retake shows real growth rather than the same starting point.

The report includes a Subject & Activity Guidance section that maps your child’s strengths to streams, activities and future career clusters. It does not make the decision, but gives you, your child and their counsellor evidence for conversations about Science, Commerce, Humanities or other paths.

Yes. You can use the report on your own with linked videos, articles and exercises, or book a certified Axis Compass coach, who works with your child and you together on a 90-day plan.

Exam Readiness & Career Interests Ages 13–17

Competitive Exam Readiness Compass and Career Interest Explorer — for parents and schools

EXAM READINESS & CAREER INTERESTS
What is the Competitive Exam Readiness Compass (CERC)?

CERC is a validated assessment for students aged 13–17 preparing for JEE, NEET, Olympiads or Board exams. It measures 16 readiness constructs in six clusters, such as exam composure, motivation and how well a student studies, so families know what to work on.

Yes. On its own it has 80 questions, takes about 20–25 minutes and gives one CERC report. If your child also takes Strengths Compass Pro, they answer only the additional exam-readiness questions, about 10 minutes more, and you receive both reports.

An add-on to Strengths Compass Pro for students aged 13–17. In 35 short statements, about 10 minutes, it maps your child’s interests across seven career directions and checks each one against their strengths, before they choose a stream for Class 11.

Yes. Schools running CERC receive a group report showing where their students stand together, and each family receives its own report, so support can start early.

Young Adults Ages 18–25

Strengths Compass Pro for Young Adults — College students & early career professionals

About the Assessment
How long does the young adult assessment take?

Most people finish in 20–25 minutes. The young adult version has 126 questions on a 1–5 scale, with no time limit, and you can save and return if interrupted.

Yes. Young professionals use the results to make the most of their current role, decide which skills to build first, plan a career change, or decide on an MBA or further study, at any point in their 20s.

Not at all — in fact, early is better. Understanding your strengths at the start of college helps you choose specialisations, extracurricular activities, internship types, and study strategies that align with your natural profile. It also gives you three or four years to deliberately develop areas before you enter the job market.
CAREER & ACADEMIC GUIDANCE
Will this tell me what career to choose?

No single test can do that. It shows which kinds of careers suit your strengths and where you have natural advantages; your final decision should also weigh your interests, values and the job market.

Yes. Your profile includes role fit indicators: individual contributor or management track, client-facing or internal roles, structured corporate or open-ended startup settings, and fast-paced or methodical work. These give you clear criteria for comparing offers beyond salary and brand.

Your profile shows whether you are energised by structured study, collaboration-heavy programmes, independent research or applied, fast-paced learning. It can clarify whether further study is the right move now, or whether learning on the job serves you better at this stage.

Tensions explain why certain situations feel harder than they should. For example, if you have high optimism but low resilience, you may handle long-term vision well but struggle when unexpected failures occur. If you have high initiative but low self-discipline, you may start many projects but finish fewer. Understanding your tensions gives you specific strategies to manage them — not eliminate them — so they stop holding you back.
RESULTS & RETAKES
What does the young adult report include?

The report includes:

  • Your complete profile across all 18 strengths and 6 clusters
  • Synergy Analysis — where your strengths work together powerfully
  • Tension Mapping — where strengths create friction and how to manage it
  • Profile Insights — learning environments and work styles that suit you
  • Role Fit Indicators for different career tracks
  • A 90-day Development Roadmap with specific behaviours, resources, and progress templates

Yes. You can retake it after six months or more, especially after a major academic or career change, to see how your strengths are developing.

A certified Axis Compass coach interprets your report with you and builds a 90-day plan. Sessions are agreed with you.

Career Builders Ages 26–40

Strengths Compass Pro for Career Builders — Mid-career professionals

About the Assessment
I’ve taken assessments before. How is this different?

Many assessments only describe you, as a type or a trait score. Strengths Compass Pro is built for development: every strength links to specific workplace behaviours you can practise, and each report includes an action plan for your profile and current role.

The Career Builders version has 126 questions on a 1–5 scale, with reverse-scored items and checks that flag over-stated answers. It takes about 20–25 minutes.

CAREER, PROMOTIONS & PIVOTS
Will this help me get promoted?

It cannot promise a promotion. It shows where to focus your development, helps you present your real strengths in promotion discussions, and points to gaps to work on before moving up.

Yes, especially for judging how well your strengths fit a new context before you make the leap: starting a business, a lateral move, a change of industry or a bigger transition. It shows what you will naturally bring and what you will need to develop.

Even people who are doing well gain from knowing which strengths to lean on for further growth and which tensions cause friction, so their energy goes where it counts and they can sustain performance without burning out.

Yes. Management transitions often go wrong when people apply technical thinking to people challenges. Your report shows where your natural leadership strengths are, whether your profile supports people management, and which behaviours to practise to close the gaps.

RESULTS & VALIDITY
How long do results stay relevant?

Core strengths are fairly stable, but they do change with context and deliberate development. Retaking it after six months or more, especially around a promotion, new role or company change, shows how you have grown.

No. Results are strictly confidential to you unless you choose to share them, for example with a manager or mentor in a development conversation. We do not share individual results with employers or any third party.

The report includes:

  • an executive summary of your full profile
  • your top 5 signature strengths
  • 2–3 development priorities
  • role guidance (individual contributor or management, specialist or generalist)
  • a leadership development pathway
  • a 90-day action plan with measurable practices
COACHING
How does coaching for Career Builders work?

A certified Axis Compass coach interprets your report with you and builds a 90-day plan. Sessions are agreed with you.

Experienced Professionals Ages 40+

Strengths Compass Pro for Experienced Professionals — Senior leaders & executives

About the Assessment
I’ve done extensive leadership development. What will this add?

Much leadership development is general. This gives you specific insight into your own combination of strengths, in your own context, so your development plan fits you rather than a template.

A 360 shows how others see you; a strengths assessment shows your own strengths and how they work together. The two complement each other, and we can interpret them together in a coaching session.

What if I’m satisfied with my leadership performance?

Even highly effective leaders gain from knowing which strengths to lean on for continued impact, which tensions cause friction, and how to plan transitions. This is about legacy and growth, not fixing faults.

LEADERSHIP, LEGACY & TRANSITIONS
I’m considering retirement or phased retirement. Is this relevant?

Yes. It helps with designing an encore career, positioning for board roles, shaping advisory work or planning a phased step back, by clarifying what you want to keep doing and where you add most value.

Yes. The report includes a Board Readiness & Advisory Positioning section that assesses your strengths relevant for independent board service and governance, advisory roles and consulting portfolios, fractional executive positions, and mentorship of CEOs and founders. This helps you understand and articulate your unique governance value proposition beyond domain expertise.

Yes. Comparing your profile with your team members’ shows complementary strengths, useful tensions and how to work together. For whole teams, see Group Strengths Analytics for Corporates.

At senior levels, tensions usually sit between two well-developed strengths rather than a strength and a gap. Examples: high Perseverance with moderate Flexibility (conviction versus openness), high Initiative with moderate Cooperation (bias to action versus shared ownership), and high Optimism with moderate Emotional Regulation (energy versus preparing for setbacks). Managing these well is often what marks leadership maturity.

EXECUTIVE COACHING
How does executive coaching work?

A certified Axis Compass coach interprets your report with you and builds a 90-day plan. Sessions are agreed with you.

The report includes:

  • a senior leadership dashboard
  • your 3–5 defining leadership strengths
  • how your strengths have developed over your career
  • strategic synergies and executive tensions
  • guidance on legacy, talent development and influence
  • board readiness and advisory positioning
  • encore career planning, if relevant
  • a 90-day executive action plan

Coaching & Support

How coaching works, what to expect, and how to get started

What is the difference between self-directed and coached options?

Self-directed: you receive your full report and work through the linked videos, articles, exercises and development roadmap on your own. Coached: a certified Axis Compass coach interprets your report with you and builds a 90-day plan. Sessions are agreed with you.

All Axis Compass coaches are trained in strengths-based development using the Axis framework, and certified in interpreting strength profiles, finding high-leverage development areas and designing practical behaviour-change plans. Coaches for the 40+ programme have experience with senior leaders.

Can I choose my coach?
Yes. After scheduling your initial consultation, you will be matched with a coach suited to your profile, industry, and development goals. If you prefer a different coach after your first session, we will work with you to find the right fit. The coaching relationship depends on trust, and we take that seriously.

Sessions are held online by video call, so they work wherever you are in India. For clients in Hyderabad, in-person sessions can be arranged on request.

Growth through strengths development is a deliberate, behaviour-level process, and results depend on practising the actions in your plan. If you are not seeing progress, your coach will adjust the approach, simplify the practices or help remove what is blocking you.

You can schedule a free consultation by calling 90638-72498, emailing guide@axiscompass.in, or using the scheduling form on the website. The free consultation is a no-pressure conversation to understand your situation, answer questions, and determine whether coaching is the right next step for you.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Who sees your results and how your data is protected

Who can see my assessment results?

You, and anyone you choose to share them with. For students aged 13–17, the report goes to the student and the parent, and coached sessions involve a parent. Employers and institutions cannot see individual results without permission.

No. Even in enterprise or institutional programmes where an organisation pays for assessments, individual results remain confidential to the participant. Organisations may receive aggregate, anonymised group-level insights for programme design purposes, but never individual-level data without the participant’s consent.
Your assessment data and reports are stored securely in your account and remain accessible for as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your data, you can request account closure and data deletion by contacting guide@axiscompass.in. We will process such requests promptly in accordance with applicable data protection regulations.

Reports & Results

What your report contains and how to use it

When do I get my results?
Your report is available instantly upon completing the assessment. There is no waiting period. You can view it online immediately, download it as a PDF, or print it.
The report is available as:
  • Interactive online dashboard — viewable in your account with dynamic visuals
  • Downloadable PDF — professional format suitable for coaching, advisory, or development conversations
  • Print-friendly format — formatted for clean physical printing

The report is designed to be self-explanatory, with plain-language explanations for every score. For a deeper interpretation, you can book a free 30-minute consultation to go through your report, book a full coaching session, or email your questions to guide@axiscompass.in.

If scores feel inconsistent with your self-perception, consider two possibilities: First, the assessment may be reflecting genuine blind spots — our self-perceptions are often inaccurate, and objective data can be illuminating. Second, if you answered quickly or not fully honestly, the results may not fully reflect you. In either case, a coaching consultation can help you interpret your scores in context. If you believe there was a technical error, contact us directly.

Retakes & Progress Tracking

When and how to reassess your growth

How often should I retake the assessment?

For students aged 13–17, after at least six months. For the adult versions, after six months or more, especially around a major change such as a new course, role, promotion or leadership transition.

Yes. Your account stores all previous assessment results, allowing you to track how your strength profile has changed over time. This longitudinal view is especially valuable to see the impact of deliberate development efforts and coaching
Retaking too soon — before implementing your development plan — will likely produce very similar results. The waiting period exists to give you time to practise the specific behaviours in your action plan, build new habits, and create measurable change that will show up meaningfully in a new assessment. Change at the level of core strengths is real but takes consistent effort over months
